The IEEE 1633 Recommended Practices for Software Reliability was updated in 2017. It provides practical hands-on methods for predicting software reliability, conducting software failure modes effects analysis, and improving the reliability of software. This document was chaired by the founder of Mission Ready Software.
Ann Marie Neufelder is the chair of the IEEE 1633 Recommended Practices for Software Reliability, 2017. The 2008 version of this document was too theoretical. Ann Marie assembled a team of end users from the defense, space, medical, and other industries to drive the content and ensure that it’s usable in a real engineering environment. She is the global expert on this document.
IEEE 1633 Training
We provide IEEE 1633 training in several formats:
- Online self-guided
- Online instructor-guided – open session
- Online Instructor guided – private session
- On-site (available Post Covid-19)
- Open session in Huntsville, AL, and Orlando, FL (available Post Covid-19)
Tools
Our tools automate many of the IEEE 1633 recommended practices for software reliability:
- Frestimate and Software Reliability Toolkit address the prediction methods in clauses 5.3 and 6.2.
- Frestimate Manager’s Edition address the software reliability growth models in clauses 5.4 and 6.3.
- System Software Reliability module addressed the merging of software and hardware reliability as per clause 5.3.7 as well as the software fault tree clause 5.2.3.
- Software FMEA toolkit addresses the software failure modes effects analysis as per clause 5.2.2.
- The Neufelder Assessment Model addresses an optional advanced model that works with the 217Plus (TM) model as per the Annex.
- In 2021 the Requs Top Level Software FMEA Tool suite will be the first tool to automate both the software failure rate prediction and the software FMEA into one tool.
Expert Services
Ann Marie Neufelder is the globally recognized expert for IEEE 1633. She conducts the analyses in this document as a service. Typically it can be less expensive than hiring a full-time person. She is also available to write proposals and statements of work for ensuring reliable software for vendor or contractor-supplied software.
