Certified Software Reliability Engineer

Certified reliability engineers – advance your career with a demonstration of software reliability fundamentals

Certified Reliability Engineer

The Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) certification has been around for years, but with today’s systems heavily driven by software, there’s a growing need for expertise in software reliability. Advancing your career by becoming a Certified Software Reliability Engineer will equip you with the specialized knowledge and skills needed to ensure the reliability of modern software systems.

Certified Software Reliability Engineer

A Certified Software Reliability Engineer (CSRE) is an expert in applying principles of software reliability to enhance the overall reliability of products and systems, much like how a Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) focuses on hardware reliability. The CSRE’s body of knowledge covers key areas, including software reliability prediction, estimation, apportionment methods, software failure mode effects and analysis, testing for reliable software, and managing a software reliability program throughout the entire product lifecycle. This expertise helps ensure that software meets the highest standards of dependability and performance.

 EDUCATION

Candidates are expected to have a 4-year technical degree, similar to the requirements for a certified reliability engineer.

CSRE AND CSFMEA PRACTICE EXAMS

Similarly to the certified reliability engineer exam, practice tests are made available to applicants approved to take them.

EXAMINATION

Each certification candidate must pass an examination of multiple-choice or true-or-false questions that measure comprehension of the Body of Knowledge.

Online exam – The CSRE exam has 100 questions and is offered in English only. The total allowed time is 1.5 hours and is open book. The CSFMEA exam has 100 questions and is provided in English only.  The total allowed time is 1.5 hours and is open book.  Each add-on certification has 50 questions; the permitted time is 1.5 hours, which is open-book.

EXAM STATUS

Results will be delivered immediately at the end of the test.  Electronic certificates will be emailed within two weeks.  If the test result fails, you will receive a score summary and can retake the exam in one week but no later than one year, free of charge.  After that, exam retakes are at the total price.  Certifications are valid for five years after the exam is passed.

APPLICATION PROCESS & TIMELINE
  1. Submit your application: Submit a resume detailing work experience, education, and coursework in software reliability.
  2. If the application is accepted, it must be paid by credit card.
  3. Online testing: Once payment is received, the candidate will receive a username and password for taking the exam. The computer-based testing portal is available for one year after the purchase of the exam.  Once the exam begins, it must be finished.
